Boreal Blizzard, Late Blooming Honeyberry (Haskap)
Developed by the Saskatchewan Fruit Program in Canada, Boreal Blizzard was selected for it's excellent crops of large, flavorful fruit which are great for fresh eating, freezing or baking. These berries tend to be quite a bit larger and than most honeyberry fruits, weighing up to 3 times heavier than typical honeyberries, and they are also some of the sweetest of all honeyberries while still having a delightful zing to them! They ripen a week later than Aurora or Tundra which are early blooming varieties, typically around mid-June to mid-July. A vigorous grower, Boreal Blizzard has an upright growth habit with strong branches that tends to create a rounded top.
Not self-fertile - must be planted near a different variety of honeyberry in order to produce fruit. Best varieties for cross-pollination would be Indigo Gem, Tundra, Honey Bee and Boreal Beast.
Do not rely on Aurora for cross-pollination with Boreal Blizzard as they are too closely related for either to get good pollination results.
